About the Building
Meridian Gallery, located one block from Union Square and the world-famous Powell Street cable car line, is the perfect location for your next event. Built in 1911 by architect C.A. Meussdorffer in the rare French Victorian-Second Empire style, the mansion is unique as the only freestanding building in downtown San Francisco built as a single-family residence. With a sweeping grand staircase, high archways and hardwood floors, the distinctive architectural spaces of Meridian Gallery are able to accommodate large and small gatherings with ease.
About the Art
Meridian features a diverse year-round program of contemporary art exhibitions. The exhibition schedule is planned over a year in advance, allowing you to preview images of what will be on display to assist in planning your event.
Location
Meridian Gallery is centrally located at 535 Powell Street in the heart of downtown San Francisco, one block off Union Square and five blocks from the Powell Street BART and MUNI stations. With six major hotels and multiple parking garages in a block away, Meridian Gallery is convenient for both visitors and Bay Area residents alike.
Rates
Rates vary based on type and size of event but broadly range from $500-$1000 for weeknights and $1500-$2000 for weekends. We offer a 30% reduction to non-profit organizations. Please call 415-398-7229 or email SpaceRental@MeridianGallery.org for more specifics.
Catering
From refreshments for conferences to full banquets, Meridian's in-house caterer The Red Door (www.RedDoorCatering.com) can make any event magnificent. You may also work with your own caterer, should you desire.
The Spaces
1st Floor
A beautiful high-ceilinged gallery perfect for receptions or seated dinners. Can warmly accommodate 60-75 people standing and a seated dinner of 30, depending on configuration. A conversation nook with a fireplace adds a charming space to set up a bar, refreshments, or display.
2nd Floor
An intimate space for conversation or staging that connects the two event floors.
3rd Floor
A long open gallery, ideal for performances, lectures, seminars and presentations. Can also be used as a banquet hall for 60 people or for standing receptions of 80-100. Comes equipped with a ceiling-mounted digital projector and speakers for connecting to DVD players, iPods and laptops.
Gathering Room
This intimate space overlooks the hundred-year-old palm tree in Meridian's back garden. Airy and intimate, this space is perfect for board meetings or executive conferences of up to 15.
