The Art of Tim Whiten
Date: Sep 22,2010
Time: 07:00 PM - 09:00 PM
The San Francisco Art Institute in collaboration with Meridian will stage a colloquium on the "Art of Tim Whiten" centering on a conversation between Robert Farris Thompson of Yale University and the sculptor. Dr. Claire Daigle will introduce the conversation.
In the monograph for Whiten, Thompson wrote:
"The art of Tim Whiten, ancestor-oriented, betrays more than a trace of African-influenced American tradition...Back-home ritual, combined with the aesthetics of Japan, plus mark-making, and the control of technology, identify an artist who is both universalizing and loyal to his culture. Visual ancestry triumphs over all."
