The Pause - A solstice event and closing reception in collaboration with Meridian Music: Composers in Performance
Join us for the closing reception of By Mainly Unexpected Means --Work from the Cubberley Studios. The curator, Theres Rohan, and many of the artists will be present.
This is your last opportunity to see this stunning show of artists from Silicon Valley. Rohan, who has curated several exhibitions at Meridian Gallery, carefully selected each work from the Cubberley Studio artists, with particular attention paid to the object as a manifestation of the artists’ investigation. The exhibition has been described in the press as a show where “the material world and its spiritual extensions are so subtly celebrated [it] makes at least this art lover breathe with relief. Not that the digital world is by any means ignored or scorned here: it is, however, used to deepen our humanity, not try to replace it.” The reception will include a special performance in celebration of the winter solstice entitled The Pause featuring the music of cellist Crystal Pascucci.
Crystal Pascucci is a cellist, composer, and improviser. Her approach to improvisation and composition are influenced greatly by her training in chamber music. Her music utilizes delicate communication amongst performing musicians, draws clear phrase lines, and uses orchestration found in small ensemble compositions. There is no one traditional tone or sound found at the aim — there is only musical intention, regardless of timbre or technique. In this way, statements are presented through a large palette — through an unconventional lens.
Drinks and light refreshments will be served
